GTA Real Estate Starts 2021 with Another Jump in Sales and Higher Prices

January sales figures continued to build on the strength of last years record sales numbers.
 
During January, the Toronto Regional Real Estate Board (TRREB) recorded 6,928 sales, up more than 50% compared to January 2020 levels. The strong start to 2021 included sales growth throughout the GTA and across all major segments, including condos in the 905 regions. The average selling price for January 2021 was up by 15.5% to $967,885.
 
Within Durham Region, TRREB reported 651 residential real estate transactions, up 11% when compared to last January. The biggest news was the huge increase in the average sale price. The average sale price in Durham reached $876,133, up 33% from the average of $655,781 that was reported last January.
 
Competition between buyers was remains strong at all price levels, especially for starter homes priced below $700,000. It is common for most listings in Durham Region receive 20 or more offers and sell for over $100,000 more than the asking price.
